The paper deals with a priori geometric design for interference-free motion in planar mechanisms. For that purpose the authors propose a more general model of links and joints in order to get a wider variety of combinatorial arrangements of the links, which increases the feasibility of the design. A theoretical investigation on the simultaneous synthesis of link geometry using the concept of compliant motion is also presented.
