The author studies the potential scattering on infinite cylinders and half-cylinders. The resolvent of the differential operator has a meromorphic continuation to a Riemann surface. The resonances, poles of the meromorphic continuation of the resolvent, are points in the Riemann surface. The resonances correspond to waves which eventually decay. Additionally, they are in many ways analogous to eigenvalues. The spectral and scattering theory of such manifolds exhibits some characteristics that one expects both from one dimensional scattering and from \(n\)-dimensional spectral theory. The resonance-counting functions considered demonstrate the one-dimensional nature of the scattering. Under certain conditions on the potential, the author obtains asymptotics of the counting functions, with an explicit formula for the constant appearing in the leading term.
