The author deals with the size of the largest union of two or three chains in the Tamari lattice. The main results are two theorems. It is proved that, for \(n>5\), \(\lambda_2 (T_n) = \lambda_1 (T_n)-4\) and, for \(n>6\), \(\lambda_3 (T_n) = \lambda_2 (T_n)-2\).
