The relationship between the Voiculescu-Brown entropy \(ht(\alpha)\) of an automorphism \(\alpha\) of a separable exact \(C^\ast\)-algebra \(A\) and the topological entropy \(h_{top}(S_ \alpha)\), where \(S_\alpha\) is an action \(\sigma\to \sigma \circ \alpha\) on the dual unit ball of \(A\) endowed with the weak\(^\ast\)-topology, is studied. The main result says that \(ht(\alpha)=0\) implies \(h_{top}(S_\alpha)=0\). Consequently, zero Voiculescu-Brown entropy implies zero topological entropy on the state space provided that the algebra is unital. Nice geometric arguments from the local theory of Banach spaces are developed for the proof of this result. As an application, it is shown that a large class of dynamical systems have positive Voiculescu-Brown entropy. In particular, it is shown that the Voiculescu-Brown entropy of the shift on the reduced group \(C^\ast\)-algebra \(C_ r^\ast(F_ \infty)\) has zero entropy on the state space (in contrast to the full group \(C^\ast\)-algebra).
