The authors discuss the Serre problem (the problem of whether a holomorphic fibre bundle with Stein base \(B\) and Stein fibre \(F\) is Stein) in the case where \(F\) is a pseudoconvex hyperbolic Reinhardt domain in \({\mathbb C}^2\). It may be noted that the first known counterexample to the problem with fibre a bounded domain was of this type [see \textit{G. Coeuré} and \textit{J.-J. Loeb}, Ann. Math. (2) 122, 329--334 (1985; Zbl 0585.32030)]. In this paper the authors give a characterisation of all pseudoconvex hyperbolic Reinhardt domains in \({\mathbb C}^2\) for which the Serre problem fails.
