The authors consider a smooth closed connected \(m\)-dimensional manifold \(M\) and they study the Fréchet manifold \(Gr_n(M)\) of all \(n\)-dimensional oriented compact submanifolds of \(M\), without boundary. First they prove that every closed \((n+2)\)-form \(\alpha\) on \(M\) defines a closed 2-form \(\tilde{\alpha}\) on \(Gr_n(M)\); if \(\alpha\) is integrable, then \(\tilde{\alpha}\) is the curvature form of a principal connection on a principal \(S^1\)-bundle over \(Gr_n(M)\). In the case \(\alpha\) is a closed, integrable volume form, then every connected component \({\mathcal M}\) of \(Gr_{m-2}(M)\), equipped with the symplectic form \(\tilde{\alpha}\), is a prequantizable coadjoint orbit of some central extension of \(\text{Ham}(M,\alpha)\) by \(S^1\). Particularly, if \((M,\omega)\) is a closed connected symplectic manifold, \(SGr_{2n}(M)\) is the open subset of \(Gr_{2n}(M)\) consisting of oriented symplectic submanifolds and \(\alpha = \omega^{n+1}\), then every connected component \({\mathcal M}\) of \(SGr_{2n}(M)\) endowed with the symplectic form \(\tilde{\alpha}\) is a prequantizable coadjoint orbit of \(\text{Ham}(M,\omega)\).
