\textit{A. G. Kushnirenko} [Invent. Math. 32, 1--31 (1976; Zbl 0328.32007)] introduced the concept of Newton number \(\nu(f)\) of an isolated hypersurface singularity defined by an element \(f \in \mathbb{C} \{z_1, \ldots, z_n\}\) and proved that \(\mu (f,0) \geq \nu (f)\), where \(\mu (f,0)\) is the Milnor number of the singularity. In the paper under review, the author gives an easy to compute lower bound of the number \(\nu(f)\) and, moreover, extends his result to an isolated singularity of a similar complete intersection variety.
