Let \(R\) be a discrete valuation domain and \({\mathfrak H}\) the class of mixed modules \(H\) of arbitrary torsion-free rank whose torsion submodules are direct sums of cyclics such that \(H/tH\) is divisible. Using a basic generating system of a module in \({\mathfrak H}\), relation arrays and small relation arrays are introduced. The main result of the paper (theorem 6) characterizes the splitting modules in the class \({\mathfrak H}\) as those having at least one small relation array or, equivalently, having small relation arrays, only.
