    Let \(m\) be a positive integer. A semigroup \(S\) will be called \(m\)-tuply potent if for every \(m\)-tuple \(x_1,\dots, x_m\) of elements of \(S\) there exist an integer \(i\): \(1\leq i\leq m\) and an integer \(r > 1\) such that \(x_{i+1}\dots x_m (x_1\dots x_m)^r=x_{i+1}\dots x_m x_1\dots x_m\) (consider \(x_{i+1}\dots x_m=1\) if \(i=m\)). Let \(S\) be an \(m\)-tuply potent finitely generated semigroup such that every finitely generated subgroup is finite. Then \(S\) is finite. This theorem extends the celebrated theorem by \textit{J. A. Green} and \textit{D. Rees}[see Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 48, 35-40 (1952; Zbl 0046.019); see also \textit{S. Varricchio}, Semigroup Forum 38, 331-335 (1989; Zbl 0663.20066)].
