In this self-contained article the author presents a simplified derivation of the irreducible representations of the Hecke algebra \(H_q\) of type \(A_n\). Since the symmetric group algebra is a special case of \(H_q\), the construction presented in this paper works for the symmetric group representations simply by taking \(q = 1\).
