A new transformation strategy is developed for computing approximate solutions in action-angle variables to any order while avoiding problems associated with normalization. The first transformation is chosen to eliminate all perturbation terms from the transformed Hamiltonian. The second transformation inverts the time equation to produce solutions which are explicit, rather than implicit, in time. These solutions are shown to be equivalent to solutions found using a traditional normalization procedure. In considering the Duffing oscillator, the method has the computational advantage that no integrations of elliptic functions are necessary for determining orbital snape. Moreover, only one integration is required to determine temporal solutions to any order, in contrast to normalization.
