Let \(M\) be a compact submanifold of the complex projective space \(\mathbb{C} P^ n\). Let \(P_{n + N - r[0]}\) be a projective plane through the fixed point 0. For all points \(z\) in \(M\) we have the projective \(n\)-plane \(T_ z M\) of the projective tangent bundle of \(M\). Let \(\Gamma_ r\) be the set of all projective \(r\)-planes \((r \leq n)\) which are contained in some \(T_ z M\), pass through \(z\) and are orthogonal to \(P_{n + N - r [0]}\). If \(1 < r \leq n\), the \(r\)-th total absolute curvature \(K_ r(M)\) of \(M\) is defined as the mean value of the measures \(\mu(\Gamma_ r \cap P_{n + N - r [0]})\) for all \(P_{n + N - r[0]}\). If \(n < r \leq n + N + 1\), \(K_ r (M)\) is the same, but \(\Gamma_ r\) denotes the set of all projective \(r\)-planes which contain some tangent projective \(n\)-plane \(T_ z M\) and are orthogonal to \(P_{n + N - r [0]}\), a local interpretation of \(K_ r (M)\) and the definition of the non-absolute curvature are given. Finally, a topological characterization for total (non-absolute) curvature of complex superfaces in \(\mathbb{C} P^ n\) is also given.
