The role of viscosity in the vorticity-solid body interaction is studied numerically, namely, evolution of a given two-dimensional vorticity distribution near a circular cylinder is analyzed. Two-dimensional inviscid contour dynamics technique and vortex sheet at the body surface are applied to inviscid simulations. For the viscous flow, two- dimensional discrete vortex approximation with the model of body surface as a continuum distribution of vorticity sources is used. In the inviscid case, almost circular trajectory of invariant vorticity patch around cylinder is obtained. Under the influence of viscosity, completely different almost dipolar structure arises from the coupling of the positive vorticity patch with negative vorticity shed.
