The fundamental solution \(E(x,t)\) of the Cauchy problem for the equation \[ (\varepsilon^2 \partial^2/ \partial t^2 + 2m \partial/ \partial t - c^2 \Delta) E(x,t) = 0 \] where \(x \in \mathbb{R}\), \(m > 0\), \(c > 0\), \(\varepsilon < 1\), is considered. It is shown that its support may be subdivided into 4 subregions according to the type of asymptotic expansion. Within two of them the asymptotics of \(E(x,t)\) is equivalent to the ``Poisson kernel''. Various types of solutions corresponding to the initial data are considered and sufficient conditions for the asymptotic transition are presented. Analogous results for the asymptotic expansion of the mass flow density are given. The presented methods are suitable to obtain an asymptotic expansion of the solution of the Cauchy problem if the initial data belong to \(L_1 (- \infty, \infty)\) and their supports are compact. The connection with the probability theory is outlined as well.
