This is an announcement of an explicit formula for the discrepancy of a finite sequence of points in the \(d\)-dimensional unit cube \([0,1 [^d\). The given expression is a \((d+1)\)-fold maximum only containing terms of the sequence. The cases \(d=2\), \(d=3\) were treated earlier by the author and the reviewer [Abh. Math. Semin. Univ. Hamb. 63, 115-133 (1993; Zbl 0789.11041); see also Chin. Sci. Bull. 38, 1318-1319 (1993; Zbl 0789.11040)].
