As mentioned by \textit{F. A. Berezin} and \textit{F. I. Karpelevich} [(\(*\)) Vestnik Moskov. Univ., Ser. I 31, No. 1, 33-38 (1976; Zbl 0317.46045)], in certain questions of mathematical physics there arises the following problem. Assume that on a manifold \(M\) there acts a Lie group \(G\). One has to describe all the multiplications in \(C(M)\), converting this space into an associative algebra, for which the translations with respect to \(G\) are automorphisms. In (\(*\)) this problem has been solved for the case when \(M= \mathbb{R}^n\) and \(G= \mathbb{R}^n\) is the group of translations, under an additional condition of smoothness of the considered operations. The central role in the proof of the completeness of the classification presented in (\(*\)) has been played by the following statement: all the solutions of the functional equation \[ f(x, y)+ f(x+ y, z)= f(x, y+ z)+ f(y, z)\tag{1} \] in \(C^2(\mathbb{R}^n)\) have the form \[ f(x, y)= B(x, y)+ h(x)- h(x+ y)+ h(y),\tag{2} \] where \(B(x, y)\) is an antisymmetric bilinear form, \(h\in C(\mathbb{R}^n)\). In other words, formula (2) describes the smooth 2- cocyles of the group \(\mathbb{R}^n\) with complex coefficients. We obtain an analogous description of the generalized 2-cocycles, i.e., solutions of the equation (1) in the space of generalized functions.
