The paper deals with evolution problems in the mechanics of viscous- plastic media. Let \(x = (x_1, x_2, \dots, x_m) \in \Omega \subset R^m\), \(t \in R\), and let \(v(x,t) = (v_1, v_2, \dots, v_m)\) denote a velocity field of a motion of an incompressible medium in the Eulerian frame. The deviator function \(Q\) is defined by \(Qv = e_{ij} = {1 \over 2} ({\partial v_i \over \partial x_j} + {\partial v_j \over \partial x_i})\), \((i,j = 1,2, \dots, m)\). The stress deviator \(s = s_{ij}\) and the deviator deformation rate \(e = e_{ij}\) are connected by the (constitutive) relation (1) \(\varphi (e) + \varphi^* (s) = es\) where \(\varphi\) is a convex and even function with \(\varphi (0) = 0\) (a \(B\)-function) on the set \(\Sigma_m\) of all symmetric matrices of order \(m \times m\) and with zero trace, that maps a finite dimensional Euclidean space \(V\) onto \(R\), and \(\varphi^*\) is the function conjugated to \(\varphi\). The main thrust of the paper is to deal with the vector boundary value problem (2) \({d \over dt} (v(t),h) + (Qh, s(t)) = \Lambda (t) h\), \(h \in i^{(1)}_\varphi (\Omega)\), \(v(x,t) = 0\) \((x \in \partial \Omega)\), \(t \in R\). A series of three lemmas and two theorems are proved in the paper to establish that under a set of explicitly stated conditions the problem defined by (1) and (2) has a bounded solution and that it is unique and almost periodic.
