In their famous paper ``Heegner points and derivatives of \(L\)-series'' [Invent. Math. 84, 225-320 (1986; Zbl 0608.14019)] \textit{B. Gross} and \textit{D. Zagier} gave a relation between the derivative at the central point \(s=1\) of the \(L\)-series of the factor \(A_f/ K\) attached to a normalized newform of weight 2 and level \(N\) of the Jacobian \(J_0 (N)/ \mathbb{Q}\) of the modular curve \(X_0 (N)/ \mathbb{Q}\), where \(K= \mathbb{Q}( \sqrt {D})\) is an imaginary quadratic field of discriminant \(D\), and the height of the \(f\)-isotypical component of a Heegner point on \(J_0 (N)\) of discriminant \(D\). They always assumed that \(D\) was squarefree and prime to \(N\). In his thesis [Bonner Math. Schriften 259 (1994; Zbl 0836.11018)] the author generalized the ``analytic part'' of the proof of the Gross-Zagier formula to the case where \(D\) is not necessarily squarefree, but with conductor prime to \(N\). In the present note he gives a summary of these results and discusses the conjectured relationship between his computations and the height pairing of Heegner points of more general discriminant \(D\). In the more general case such a Gross-Zagier formula so far has not yet been proved, mainly because certain complicated local height computations have not yet been carried out.
