The Cauchy problem for a first-order quasilinear equation \[ u_t+ (\varphi(u))_x= 0,\quad (t, x)\in Q= (0, +\infty)\times \mathbb{R},\tag{1} \] \[ u(0, x)= u_0(x)\tag{2} \] is studied. Let \(\eta(u)\in C^1(\mathbb{R})\) be a strictly convex function and \(q(u)= \int^u_0 \eta'(s)\varphi'(s)ds\). The function \(u(t, x)\in L^\infty\) is called an \(\eta\)-solution of problem (1), (2) with admissible entropy \(\eta(u)\), if: 1) \(u(t, x)\) satisfies (1) in the sense of distributions; 2) there exists a set \(E\subset (0, +\infty)\) of Lebesgue measure zero such that as \(t\to 0\), \(t\not\in E\), \(u(t, x)\to u_0(x)\) in \(L_{\text{loc}}^1(\mathbb{R})\); 3) in the domain \(Q\), \((\eta(u))_t+ (q(u))_x\leq 0\) in the sense of distributions. It is proved that an \(\eta\)-solution of problem (1), (2) is unique if \(\varphi(u)\in C^2(\mathbb{R})\), \(\varphi''(u)> 0\).
