The authors present current knowledge of the lunar gravity field. They investigate and analyze various methods used in determining this field and show that weaknesses exist in the current models. The authors discuss and compare the differences and the improvements performed during the last two decades in the models. It appears that the dominant part of weaknesses is caused by the lack of lunar tracking data information. Comparison of the various lunar models reveals an agreement in the low-order coefficients of the Legendre polynomial expansions, but substantial differences in the models can exist in the higher-order harmonics. Since the authors attempt to establish ideas for refinement of the current lunar potential model, in my opinion the paper should be read for anyone involved in research of these field models.
