Examples are discussed which show that the moments \(c_n (\alpha)= \int_0^1 t^n d\alpha (t)\) of some singular (resp. absolutely continuous) distributions \(\alpha\) can have regular asymptotic behavior (resp. an asymptotic expansion with oscillatory terms). This contradicts a conjecture of \textit{W. Goh} and \textit{J. Wimp} [J. Approximation Theory 74, 301-334 (1993; Zbl 0788.41019)].
