The relative distance of two points \(a\) and \(b\) of a convex body \(C\) is defined as the ratio of their Euclidean distance to half the Euclidean distance of two points \(a'\) and \(b'\) in \(C\) where \(a'b'\) is the longest chord in \(C\) parallel to \(ab\). A side \(ab\) of a convex \(n\)-gon is relatively short if the relative distance of \(a\) and \(b\) is at most the relative distance of two consecutive vertices of a regular \(n\)-gon. A side is defined relatively long similarly. The paper proves that every convex \(n\)-gon with \(n \leq 5\) has a relatively long and a relatively short side. There are hexagons that have no relatively short side, and it is conjectured that hexagons always have a relatively long side.
