      The author is concerned with the dynamics of a fluid inside a closed pipe driven by natural convection, i.e., due to the exchange of heat between the fluid and the ambient environment. A very general model is analyzed which has been derived in a paper by \textit{J. J. L. Velázquez} [SIAM J. Appl. Math. 54, No. 6, 1561-1593 (1994; Zbl 0823.35151)]. The author shows that the model admits a unique solution in several spaces for some initial data for the velocity and temperature. Special solutions are considered, and their asymptotic behavior is investigated.
