    The authors consider, in a bounded domain \(\Omega\) of \(\mathbb{R}^k\) with Lipschitz boundary \(\partial\Omega\), the system of hyperbolic equations for a map \(u: \Omega\times (0, \infty)\to \mathbb{R}^\ell\): \[ \begin{multlined} a_{ij}(x) D^2_t u^i(x, t)- D_3(b^{\alpha\beta}_{ij}(x) D_\alpha u^i(x, t))+\\ + c_{ij}(x)|u(x, t)|^{m- 2}_c u^i(x, t)- D_t D_\beta (f^{\alpha, \beta}_{ij}(x) D_\alpha u^i(x, t))= 0,\end{multlined} \] where \(D_t= \partial/\partial t\), \(D_\alpha= \partial/\partial x^\alpha\), \(|u(x, t)|_c= (c_{ij}(x) u^i(x, t))^{1/2}\) and \(m> 1\). Weak solutions are constructed by the method of semi-discretization in the time variable combining with variational calculus. The asymptotic behavior of solutions is also investigated and a decay property under the homogeneous boundary condition is shown by the discrete energy method.
