    It is well known that an Einstein metric \(g\) on a compact manifold \(M\) is characterized as a critical point of the functional \(\int_M \tau dv_g\), where \(\tau\) denotes the scalar curvature [\textit{Y. Muto}, J. Differ. Geom. 9, 521-530 (1974; Zbl 0288.53037)]. Let \(M(g,J)\) be an almost Hermitian structure on a compact manifold \(M\) and let \(\tau^*\) be the \(*\)-scalar curvature [\textit{A. L. Besse}, Einstein manifolds, Springer-Verlag New York-Berlin (1987; Zbl 0613.53001)]. The author of this paper investigates critical points of the functional \({\mathcal F}_{\lambda, \mu} (g,J) : = \int_M (\lambda \tau_+ \mu \tau^*) dv_g\) on the space \({\mathcal A} {\mathcal H} (M)\) of almost Hermitian structures \((g,J)\) on \(M\), where \((\lambda, \mu) \in \mathbb{R}^2 \backslash (0,0)\). In \(\S 3\) he gives some necessary and sufficient conditions such that \((g,J) \in {\mathcal A} {\mathcal H} (M)\) is a critical point of the functional \({\mathcal F}_{\lambda, \mu} (\mu \neq 0)\). In \(\S 4\) the author studies critical points of \({\mathcal F}_{\lambda, \mu}\) restricted to the subset \({\mathcal A} {\mathcal H} (M, \Omega) \subset {\mathcal A} {\mathcal H} (M)\) whose elements have the same Kähler form \(\Omega\) as a fixed almost Hermitian structure \((g,J)\). In the last section of the paper some interesting examples are given.
