Let \(F\) be a compact subset of the complex plane. The moment sequence of \(F\) is the doubly indexed sequence obtained by integrating products of powers of \(z\) with powers of \(\overline z\) against area measure on \(F\). Write \(\mathcal C\) for the class of domains \(F\) which are bounded by real algebraic curves and have the property that complex conjugation on \(\partial F\) extends to a function which is continuous on \(F\) and meromorphic on \(F^\circ\). This is the class of the title. The author provides several characterizations of \(\mathcal C\). One characterization proves that each member of \(\mathcal C\) is determined by finitely many of its moments. Another characterization involves rank one self commutators of Hilbert space operators, thereby bringing the principal functions of such operators into the study. An alternate point of view leads to an operator-theoretic interpretation of quadrature domains.
