The notion of quasiconformal mappings for hyperbolic \(n\) space over the division algebras \(\mathbb R\), \(\mathbb C\), \(\mathbb H\) and \(\mathbb O\) was introduced in [\textit{G. D. Mostow}, ``Strong rigidity of locally symmetric spaces'' (1973; Zbl 0265.53039)]. Then it was reformulated by Pansu in terms of Carnot-Carathéodory spaces, and was employed by Koranyi-Riemann in their study of quasiconformal mappings of the nilpotent Heisenberg group. An analytic approach to quasiconformal mapping on the Carnot group was developed in [\textit{S. K. Vodop'yanov}, Sib. Math. J. 37, No. 6, 1113--1136 (1996); translation from Sib. Mat. Zh. 37, No. 6, 1269--1295 (1996; Zbl 0876.30020)]. Some applications to Sobolev spaces on the Carnot group and to the theory of subelliptic equations were given in [\textit{S. K. Vodop'yanov}, Dokl. Math. 53, No. 2, 215--218 (1996); translation from Dokl. Akad. Nauk 347, No. 4, 439--442 (1996; Zbl 0896.30016)]. In this paper, some of the absolute continuity theorems are proved for quasiconformal mappings over general Carnot-Carathéodory spaces. In particular, it is shown that the differential of a quasiconformal map between Carnot-Carathéodory spaces exists and is a group isomorphism at almost all points.
