Let \((M,g, J)\) be a compact almost Kähler-Einstein space. S. Goldberg conjectured that \((M, g, J)\) must be a Kähler manifold. This conjecture still remains open. Only partial positive results are known, even in dimension 4. For example, K. Sekigawa proved that the conjecture holds when the scalar curvature is non-negative. The author considers 4-dimensional compact almost Hermitian manifolds and derives several results relating to Goldberg's conjecture. For example, he proves that the conjecture holds for compact, 4-dimensional almost Kähler manifolds with Hermitian and non-negative definite Ricci tensor. Other results are derived starting from 4-dimensional compact symplectic spaces \((M, \Omega)\) such that the first Chern class \(c_1(M)\) satisfies \(c_1(M) = \lambda [\Omega]\), \(\lambda \in \mathbb{R}\) or such that \(H^2 (M, \mathbb{R}) = \mathbb{R}\), and by considering associated metrics.
