    Let \(\mu\) be the probability self-similar fractal measure on \(\mathbb{R}^d\), generated by a family \({\mathcal S} = \{S_1, \dots,\) \(S_m\}\) of contractive similitudes and a family \({\mathbf p} = \{p_1, \dots, p_m\}\) of positive numbers (weights), satisfying \(p_1 + \cdots + p_m = 1\). We suppose that \({\mathcal S}\) satisfies the so-called open set condition. Let \(X \subseteq R^d\) be a domain such that \(\text{Supp} \mu \subseteq \overline X\). We consider operators \(T_\mu \), generated by the quadratic form \(\int_{\overline X} |u |^2d \mu\) in an appropriate kind of Sobolev-type spaces. For such operators, we prove that, essentially, a criterion of compactness is \(\max_{k = 1, \dots, m} (h_k^{2 - d} p_k) < 1\). We are interested in the behaviour of the eigenvalue distribution function \(n(t, T_\mu)\). The main result claims that for some positive constants \(c,C\) and \(t_0\), \[ n(t,T_\mu) \leq Ct^{- \delta},\;t > 0, \quad n (t, T_\mu) \geq ct^{- \delta},\;t \leq t_0. \] Here \(\delta > 0\) is defined as the unique positive solution of \(\sum^m_{k = 1} (h^{2 - d}_k p_k)^\delta = 1\).
