Let \(T:X\to X\) be a continuous map on a compact metric space \(X\). It is shown that for a recurrent point \(x\in X\) the following statements are equivalent: \(x\) is weakly almost periodic: \(\lim_{n\to\alpha} \inf{1\over n}\sum_{k<n} 1_{B(x,\varepsilon)} (T^j(x))>0\), \(\forall\varepsilon>0\); the topological supports of two accumulation points of \({1\over n}\sum\delta_{T^ix}\) agree and are equal to the \(\omega\)-limit set of \(x\). For quasi weakly almost periodic points an analogue result is also obtained. These properties (and connections to semi-conjugacy) are studied in some details.
