The purpose of this paper is to present a finite difference method for the numerical integration of the \(K(2,2)\) equation which is a wave equation that possesses solutions (compactons) vanishing outside a bounded interval of the spatial axis. This equation was introduced by \textit{P. Rosenau} and \textit{J. M. Hyman} [Phys. Rev. Lett. 70, No. 5, 564-567 (1993)].
