The paper presents two strategies for the accurate computation of potential derivatives in boundary element methods for two-dimensional potential problems. The first method regularizes the singularity in the fundamental solution by employing the potential and its derivative at the boundary reference point nearest to the calculation point in the domain. In the second method, a system of coupled equations for the unknown potential and its derivatives at the calculation point is solved to improve accuracy. The formulas are derived from Green's theorem and have simple form suitable for computer implementation. Numerical results for two simple potential problems are provided to assess the reliability of the methods.
