The purpose is to develop an efficient and accurate method to simulate the whole process of transition in three-dimensional plane boundary layers, including linear growth, second instability, breakdown, and transition, with relatively economical grids and CPU cost. Approximate line-box relaxation with semi-coarsening multigrid proves to be very efficient for solving three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations. The new fine-coarse-fine grid dissipation techniques successfully maintain the spatial direct simulation of the transition before and after breakdown. The computational results show good agreement with linear and secondary instability theories and experiments.
