    Let \(L^\varphi= L^\varphi (\Omega, \Sigma, \mu)\) be a separable Orlicz space, and let \(\rho_1\), \(\rho_2\) be two measurable functions on \(\Omega\), having the values \(\mu\)-separated from 0 and \(\infty\). Put for \(\omega\in \Omega\), \(f, g\in L^\varphi: \widetilde {f} (\omega)= f(\omega) [\rho_1 (\omega) \text{ sign } f_+ (\omega)+ \rho_2 (\omega) \text{ sign } f_- (\omega) ]\), \(\rho (f,g)= |\widetilde {f-g} |_{L^\varphi}\). Let \(H\) be a finite-dimensional subspace in \(L^\varphi\), \(f\) be an element of \(L^\varphi\). The authors call the quantity \(\rho (f,H)= \inf\{ \rho(f, g): g\in H\}\) the best non-symmetric \((\rho_1, \rho_2)\)-approximation (in \(L^\varphi\)-norm) of the function \(f\) by elements from \(H\). Theorem 1 of the presented paper guarantees existence of the best approximating element \(g_0\in H\) for each \(f\in L^\varphi\); Theorem 2 gives a test for \(g_0\).
