The verbally prime algebras play an important role in the theory of PI algebras over a field of characteristic zero. Their numerical invariants have proved an essential tool for better understanding the structure and identities of these algebras. The authors of the paper under review study the algebras \(M_{k,l}\), and \(M_k(E)\) where \(E\) is the Grassmann algebra. The authors obtain upper and lower bounds for the growth of the codimension series for \(M_{k,l}\) and for \(M_k(E)\). In addition to that they describe connections between the cocharacters and the trace cocharacters of the algebras \(M_{k,l}\).
