    The paper contains the following result: Let \((R,{\mathfrak m})\) be a Cohen-Macaulay local ring and let \({\mathfrak p}\) be a prime ideal of height \(g\) such that \(R_{\mathfrak p}\) is not a regular local ring. If \(J = (z_1, \dots, z_g)\) denotes a regular sequence inside \({\mathfrak p}\), then the link \(I=J:{\mathfrak p}\) is equimultiple with reduction number 1, where -- \(I\) is equimultiple if its analytic deviation \(\text{ad} (I) = 0\) [see \textit{C. Hunecke}, Am. J. Math. 104, 1043-1062 (1982; Zbl 0505.13003)], -- reduction number 1 means that \(I^2 = JI\). This is an extension to Cohen-Macaulay rings of a previous result by \textit{J. Herzog}, \textit{A. Simis} and \textit{W. V. Vasconcelos} [in: Commutative algebra, Proc. Conf., Trento 1981, Lect. Notes Pure Appl. Math. 84, 79-169 (1983; Zbl 0499.13002)]. The paper contains a few other related results: -- a full description of the canonical module of the Rees algebra \(R[It]\), when \(I\) is a height \(g \geq 2\) Cohen-Macaulay ideal of the \(d\)-dimensional local Gorenstein \(R\) such that \(I^2 = JI\) for some \(J = (a_1, \dots, a_g) \subset I\), -- a proof of equality for the multiplicities of two Rees algebras \(R[It]\), \(R[Jt]\) of a \(d\)-dimensional Gorenstein local ring \((R,{\mathfrak m})\), \(J\) being a regular sequence of length \(d\) and \(I=J:{\mathfrak m}\).
