    Let \(M_1\), \(M_2\) are closed surfaces with hyperbolic metrics \(g_1\) and \(g_2\) respectively. The author prove the following two theorems. (i) Let \(\Sigma\) be a closed surface with \(\chi (\Sigma)= P_1 \chi (M_1)= P_2 \chi (M_2)\) for some positive integers \(P_1\), \(P_2\). Suppose \[ f= (f_1, f_2): \Sigma\to (M_1, g_1) \times (M_2, g_2) \] with \(\deg f_1= P_1\), \(\deg f_2= -P_2\) or \(\deg f_1= -P_1\), \(\deg f_2= P_2\). Then there exists a unique minimal surface in the homotopy class of \(f\) and this surface is Lagrangian. (ii) Suppose \(f= (f_1, f_2): T^2\to (M_1, g_1) \times (M_2, g_2)\), where \(T^2\) is a torus and \([f(T^2) ]= \alpha_1 \times \alpha_2\), \(\alpha_i\in H_1 (M_i)\), \(i=1, 2\). Then there exists a unique minimal surface in the homotopy class of \(f\) and this minimal surface is Lagrangian. In case that \(M_1= M_2\) and \(P_1 = P_2 = 1\) theorem (i) has been obtained by \textit{R. Schoen} in `The role of harmonic mapping in rigidity and deformation problems' (preprint).
