    Let \(G\) be a topological Hausdorff locally compact Abelian group and let \(\nu\) be a \(\sigma\)-finite invariant Haar measure on \(G\). Denote by \(L_p (G)\) \((1\leq p\leq \infty)\) the space of complex \(p\)-summable functions with the usual norm \(|\cdot|_p\) and for \(f\in L_p (G)\) we put \[ T_l (x, t, f)= \Delta^l_t f(x)= \sum_{s=0}^l (- 1)^{s+l} {l\choose s} f(x+ st). \] One considers also the linear integral convolution operator \[ A_l (x, f)= {2\over {{2l} \choose l}} \int_G\;\sum_{s=1}^l {{2l} \choose {l-s}} f(x+ st) K(t) d\nu_t \] where the kernel \(K\) satisfies the conditions: \(K(t)\geq 0\), \(K(-t)= K(t)\), and \(\int_G K(t) d\nu_t= 1\). Let \(L_{(q,r)} (G\times G)\), \((1\leq q, r\leq \infty)\) be the space of \(\nu_x\times \nu^1_t\)- measurable complex functions \(g\) such that \(d\nu^1_t= K(t) d\nu_t\), with the corresponding \(|g|_{q, r)}\) norm. At the beginning the author proves that if \(1\leq p, q, r\leq \infty\) and if \(p'\), \(q'\), \(r'\) are the conjugate indices then \[ |f- A_l |_p\leq {1\over {{2l} \choose l}}|T_l|_{p'\to (q', r')} |\Delta^l_t f|_{(q, r)}, \] where \(|T_l |_{p'\to (q', r')}= \sup_{|h|_{p'} \leq 1} |T_l (x, t, h) |_{(q', r')}\). Refinements of this estimate are given when the kernel \(K\) satisfies some new conditions or/and \(G\) is a metrizable compact Abelian group. On the other hand the author gives exact Jackson type inequalities for \(f\in L_p (T^m)\), \(m>1\), and \(1\leq p<2\), where \(T^m= [0, 2\pi)^m\) is the \(m\)-dimensional torus and he obtains fine asymptotic estimates for the constant \(K_p (l)\) in the Jackson-Stechkin theorem in \(L_p (T)\).
