    The authors consider the system \[ u'(t) = Au(t) + \varphi (t)f,\quad u(0) = \psi_0,\ t \in [0,T],\ u \in X, \tag{1} \] \[ \int^T_0 u(t)\,d\mu(t) = \psi_1, \tag{2} \] where \(A\) is a linear closed operator with dense domain \(D(A)\). It is assumed that \(A\) generates a \(C_0\)-semigroup \(S(t)\); \(\psi_i \in D(A)\), \(\varphi (t) \in C ([0,T], R)\) and \(\mu(t) \in \text{BV}([0,T], R)\) are given. The initial value problem (1) and the inverse one consisting in the determination of \(f\) from (1), (2) are studied. Some particular cases \((A \in L(X)\); \(\varphi (0) = 0\); \(\mu(t)\) is absolutely continuous; \(S(t)\) is continuous in the norm \(L(X)\) for \(t \geq a > 0\) or \(S(t)\) is of the type \(\omega_0 = - \infty)\) are investigated in detail.
