Notations. Let \(f(z)\) be a function of a complex variable \(z\) defined in a domain \(\mathbb{D}\) of the complex plane \(\mathbb{C}\). The transformation \(w= f(z)\) is said to be angle preserving at a point \(\zeta\in \mathbb{D}\) if the limit \(\lim_{z \to\zeta} \arg {f(z)- f(\zeta) \over z-\zeta}\) exists (tacitly implied is the assumption that the denominator is different from zero at a punctured neighbourhood of the point \(\zeta)\). Arguments are identified \(\bmod (2\pi)\). The author proves the following intriguing result: Theorem. Any angle preserving transformation at every point of a domain \(\mathbb{D}\) is holomorphic in \(\mathbb{D}\). The author proves first that the function \(f(z)\) is continuous applying ideas similar to \textit{D. Menchoff}'s in his papers [Math. Ann. 95, 641-670 (1926; JFM 52.0347.02); Math. Ann. 109, 101-159 (1933; Zbl 0007.41502)]. The theorem follows by a result due to \textit{Yu. Yu. Trokhimchuk} [Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR 121, 430-431 (1958; Zbl 0092.07401]).
