A singular 2-D Roesser model with non-square matrices can be represented as a pair of non-square real matrices \(A = [A_1, A_2]\), \(E - [E_1, E_2]\). Let \[ \text{det} \bigl[ E_1 (z_1I \oplus z_2I) - A_1 \bigr] = \sum^{r_1}_{i = 0} \sum^{r_2}_{j = 0} a_{ij} z^i_1 z^j_2 \] be the characteristic polynomial of the pair \((E_1, A_1)\). A generalization of the Cayley-Hamilton theorem for \((E,A)\) is given, using the coefficients \(a_{ij}\) and the expansion of the inversion of the characteristic polynomial of \((E_1, A_1)\).
