The Dirichlet problem is considered on a bounded domain in the plane, where the differential equation is a singularly-perturbed, convection-diffusion equation. A finite element method is used, where the basis functions are piecewise linear over triangles and the convection term is upwind weighted. Upper and lower a posteriori error estimates are derived, which are independent of the small parameter.
