This paper concerns Steinberg unitary Lie algebras [introduced by \textit{B. N. Allison} and \textit{J. R. Faulkner}, J. Algebra 161, 1-19 (1993; Zbl 0812.17002)] and skew-dihedral homology [developed by \textit{J.-L. Loday}, Adv. Math. 66, 119-148 (1987; Zbl 0627.18006)] and \textit{R. L. Krasauskas}, \textit{S. V. Lapin} and \textit{Yu. P. Solov'ev}, Math. USSR, Sb. 61, No. 1, 23-47 (1988); translation from Mat. Sb., Nov. Ser. 133, No. 1, 25-48 (1987; Zbl 0628.18008)]. The author investigates a Lie algebra homomorphism \(\Phi : {\mathfrak stu}_n (R, - ,\gamma) \to eu_n (R, - ,\gamma)\) from the Steinberg unitary Lie algebra \({\mathfrak stu}_n (R, - ,\gamma)\) into the elementary unitary Lie algebra \(eu_n (R, - ,\gamma)\) \((R\) an associative \(k\)-algebra with identity, equipped with an (anti)-involution \(-)\). The author shows that the kernel of \(\Phi\) can be identified with the first skew-dihedral homology group of the algebra \(R\). Also, he gives some sufficient conditions for the homomorphism \(\Phi\) to be the universal central extension. Next, the author develops analogues of elementary unitary Lie algebras and Steinberg unitary Lie algebras of other types.
