Commuting squares and relative entropy for two subfactors (Q1908105)

The authors compute the Connes-Størmer relative entropy \(H(M| N)\) for two subfactors \(M\), \(N\) of a type \(\text{II}_1\) factor without the condition \(N\subset M\). It is shown that \(H(M| N)= H(M| M\cap N)\) when \(M\), \(N\) form a commuting square, and \(H(M| N)= H(M\vee N| N)\) when their commutants form a commuting square.
