The authors present a new way of constructing intertwining operators between principal series representations induced from maximal parabolic subgroups in the case where \(K\)-types occur with multiplicity at most 1. The so-called spectrum generating technique amounts to setting up an apparatus which will calculate the spectra of the operators, this method being applicable to bundle-valued cases. Among the applications one can notice the determination of composition series of principal series representations, and a method of deriving strong irreducibility results.
