The author studies the variety \({\mathbf S}_n\) of Lie algebras, defined over a field of characteristic zero by the standard Lie identity \[ s_n= \sum_{\sigma\in S_n} (\text{sign } \sigma) [x_0, x_{\sigma (1)}, \dots, x_{\sigma (n)} ]=0. \] In the case of associative algebras the standard identity implies a Capelli identity [\textit{A. R. Kemer}, Math. Notes 23, 414-416 (1978); translation from Mat. Zametki 23, 753-757 (1978; Zbl 0436.16013)]\ but this is not true for Lie algebras. For example every infinite-dimensional simple Lie algebra of Cartan type satisfies some standard identity but does not satisfy any Capelli identity. The main result is that all solvable of class 3 Lie algebras from \({\mathbf S}_4\) satisfy the Capelli identity in 8 skew-symmetric variables. On the other hand, the author constructs an example showing that \(s_5 =0\) does not imply any Capelli identity in the class of all solvable of class 3 Lie algebras. (Also submitted to M.R.).
