Let \(G=\text{SP}_4(q)\), \(q\) a prime power, be the symplectic group in dimension 4 over the field with \(q\) elements. Let \(r\) be a prime number not divisible by \(q\). The author determined the \(r\)-decomposition numbers of \(G\) in case \(q\) is odd [in J. Algebra 131, No. 2, 703-725 (1990; Zbl 0699.20010); ibid. 132, No. 2, 488-500 (1990; Zbl 0705.20010); Commun. Algebra 20, No. 3, 645-653 (1992; Zbl 0748.20007)]. In the paper under review the author determines the \(r\)-decomposition numbers of \(G\) for \(r |G\) and \(q\) a power of 2. In this case the ordinary character table \(G\) was found by \textit{H. Enomoto} [in Osaka J. Math. 9, 75-94 (1972; Zbl 0254.20005)]. Since \(|G|=q^4(q^2+1)(q-1)^2(q+1)^2\), hence if \(r\mid|G|\) we must have one of the possibilities \(r\mid q^2+1\), \(r\mid q-1\) or \(r\mid q+1\). In the cases that \(r\mid q^2+1\) or \(r\mid q-1\) the author is able to find the \(r\)-decomposition numbers of \(G\) using known results in modular character theory. In the case that \(r\mid q+1\) the decomposition matrix of \(G\) is found up to one parameter in one column of the matrix for the principal block.
