An extension of the Fourier spectral method with nonslip boundaries is proposed. The function subspace is a hyperplane in the Fourier-transformed velocity space. The solenoidal field representation is taken into the Fourier space so that the pressure term need not to be involved in the main dynamics, and then the time integration can simply be made by the high-order Runge-Kutta scheme. Finally, the authors study flow transitions to turbulence in a channel and in a rectangular duct heated from below.
