Error bounded piecewise linear approximation of freeform surfaces (Q1908784)

This paper has two distinct parts. In the first part, an algorithm is developed to estimate the maxnorm (Chebyshev) distance between a \(B\)-spline surface and bilinear approximations. In the second part, the maximal deviation of a curve from a polygonal approximation is estimated in terms of the curvature; this can be extended to polygonal approximations of cylindrical surfaces.
