    Let \(G\) be a simply connected algebraic group acting on a projective manifold \(V\) transitively with connected stabilizer. Let \(D \subset V\) be a reduced effective divisor and \(f : S \to V\) a morphism from a connected projective manifold \(S\). Suppose that (i) \(f^{- 1}(D_i)\) is nonempty for each irreducible component \(D_i\) of \(D\), and (ii) \(f^{-1} (D) \subset S\) is a reduced divisor on \(S\). Then the natural homomorphism \(\pi_1 (S \backslash f^{-1} (D)) \to \pi_1 (V \backslash D)\) induces a morphism which is surjective from \(\text{Ker}(\pi_1 (S \backslash f^{-1} (D)) \to \pi_1 (S))\) onto \(\pi_1 (V \backslash D)\). Note that, if Pic \(V \cong \mathbb{Z}\), then the assumption (i) can be replaced with \(\dim f(S) \geq 1\).
